The much-awaited third season of Mirzapur is now live on Prime Video. The series stars Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Isha Talwar, Vijay Varma, and Anjumm Shharma in the lead roles. Let’s see whether this crime drama has lived up to the hype or not.
Story:
After the death of Munna Bhaiyya (Divyendu Sharma), the injured Kaleen Bhaiyya (Pankaj Tripathi) is taken to a safe house. Munna’s wife, Madhuri Yadav (Isha Talwar), also the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, decides to set the state crime-free. Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal) occupies the throne of Mirzapur, but the other Baahubalis of Purvanchal refuse to accept him. Golu (Shweta Tripathi Sharma) is hell-bent on eliminating Kaleen Bhaiyya for the greater good of Mirzapur. Other Baahubalis ask Guddu Pandit and Jaunpur head Sharad (Anjumm Shharma) to prove their worth to become the King of Mirzapur. Who occupied the Mirzapur throne finally? Did CM Madhuri achieve her goal? How significant is Kaleen Bhaiyya’s role in the third installment? Find the series to know the answers.
Plus Points:
Mirzapur is a show that has garnered immense appreciation and a fanbase even in Telugu-speaking states. So, the expectations will obviously be sky-high after the two super-successful seasons. The makers infused a good amount of drama and twists to make this new season compelling, and they succeeded to an extent. The show will surely appeal to hardcore Mirzapur fans.
Compared to the first season, season 2 was more intense and violent. The third installment highlights the battle between brain and brawn. The characters come up with some impressive tactics and clever moves to get themselves out of a troublesome situation. Viewers will be pleasantly surprised when the characters show their true colors, and this aspect is neatly presented.
There are a fair amount of interesting moments with stakes getting higher and tension escalating. The character arcs of Rajesh Tailang, Isha Talwar, and Vijay Verma are well-written. The 10th episode is spectacular, and the show reaches its peak in the last half an hour as the makers throw multiple surprises.
Season 3 entirely belongs to Ali Fazal, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, and Anjumm Shharma. The trio has killed it with their superb performances, amplifying the impact multifold. Anjumm Shharma’s subtle yet stunning portrayal makes him the show stealer. Isha Talwar, Vijay Varma, Rasika Dugal, and Rajesh Tailang lend excellent support. Pankaj Tripathi has limited screen time, but he makes up for it with his ferocious screen presence in the finale.
Minus Points:
One of the biggest concerns of Mirzapur 3 is its excessive length. It packs in too much stuff, and at times, the crime drama turns exhausting. Absorbing so many details and following so many events will be difficult, and the viewers might also lose track of the goings-on. Few sub-plots are shown in detail, which hinders the interest factor.
There are a few predictable moments as well, but one more major blemish is that the dialogues don’t pack the punch. The first and second installments had catchy slogans and good one-liners, serving as the entertainment factor, but this latest season lacks this prominent feature.
Technical Aspects:
The music composed by Anand Bhaskar is not great. Johh Stewart’s background score is thumping, elevating the impact in intense moments. The iconic opening track gets a change in the last few episodes to match the show’s gloomy tone and this is a good move. The cinematography is neat, and Farhan Akhtar’s production values are fabulous.
The VFX works are satisfactory, but the editing is quite disappointing. Some characters are neatly fleshed out by the director duo Gurmmeet Singh and Anand Iyer, but a few sub-plots are unnecessarily dragged, enhancing the show’s duration. The effort in storytelling is visible, and the show has its moments, but the flaws restrict it from reaching the next level.
Verdict:
On the whole, Mirzapur 3 is not as amazing as the first two installments, but it is watchable due to the presence of some good twists and exhilarating performances. Ali Fazal, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, and Anjumm Shharma lead this crime drama with their dynamic performances, and the show offers a decent amount of interesting moments. However, the inclusion of too many details and the lengthy runtime hamper the overall impact. Mirzapur 3 had everything to emerge as a great entertainer, but the shortcomings make it just a decent watch.
