Gangs of Godavari is the latest movie of Mass Ka Das Vishwak Sen. Written and directed by Krishna Chaitanya, the film released in theaters today amidst decent expectations. Check out our review to see how the movie fares.

Story:

In the village of Kovvuru, Lankala Ratnam (Vishwak Sen) dreams of becoming successful and joins MLA Dorasami Raju’s (Goparaju Ramana) group. Later, he switches sides to Nanaji’s (Nasser) group and becomes an MLA. However, his methods make enemies. He transforms into Tiger Ratnakar and faces challenges along the way. How did Ratnakar survive the situation? Who is Bujji (played by Neha Sshetty), and what is her relationship with Ratnakar? What Ratnakar does next is the story we need to see unfold on the big screen.

Plus Points:

Vishwak Sen’s portrayal of Lankala Ratnakar is captivating, especially his adeptness with the Godavari accent. His portrayal effectively captures the character’s evolution before and after gaining power, showcasing a range of emotions from vulnerability to arrogance.

Anjali delivers another intense performance, despite her limited screen time, while Neha Sshetty impresses with her portrayal of a different character compared to her previous roles.

The well-designed action sequences in the first half, enhanced by Yuvan Shankar Raja’s score, elevate the movie. Supporting actors Goparaju Ramana, Nassar, and Hyper Aadi also contribute effectively to their respective roles.

Minus Points:

While the first half of the movie is decent and well-paced, the second half loses momentum and fails to maintain the same level of excitement. While Krishna Chaitanya handles the direction competently, the screenplay lacks the necessary punch to sustain interest throughout.

Neha Sshetty’s character could have been developed more effectively for a stronger narrative, and Anjali’s role could have been expanded. Goparaju Ramana’s portrayal as an MLA lacks depth, and casting a more notable actor could have added intrigue to the character.

Some scenes, though potentially impactful, are presented in a mundane manner, missing an opportunity to maximize their impact. The director could have focused more on the emotional sequences.

Technical Aspects:

Krishna Chaitanya’s direction is commendable overall, but the second half could have benefitted from tighter pacing and a more engaging narrative. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s score stands out as a highlight, enhancing the movie’s mood and intensity.

Anith Madhadi’s decent cinematography and Navin Nooli’s editing in the first half contribute to the movie’s visual appeal, although the editing could have been more consistent throughout. The production values are of a high standard, adding to the movie’s overall polish.

Verdict:

On the whole, Gangs of Godavari is a half-baked rural action drama with a full talent display of Vishwak Sen and Anjali’s performances. However, the movie falters big time in the second half, with a lackluster screenplay, pacing issues, and unnecessary scenes hindering its impact. Better look out for other entertainment options this weekend.
